Full bio
Hallgreenboy is an independent British artist and songwriter based in Scotland whose music combines heartfelt songwriting with emotional depth, atmospheric production and a strong sense of storytelling. His work moves freely between rock, pop, singer songwriter and cinematic sounds, creating a diverse catalogue that is connected by one constant: songs that have something to say and something to make the listener feel.
Rather than being tied to a single genre, Hallgreenboy approaches each song on its own terms. Some tracks are intimate and stripped back, allowing the lyrics and emotion to take centre stage, while others embrace electric guitars, layered arrangements and a bigger, more cinematic sound. His songwriting explores themes including love, loss, vulnerability, resilience, hope, identity and transformation, often drawing inspiration from the unpredictable experiences and emotions of everyday life.
Originally from Wigan, Lancashire, Hallgreenboy has developed a creative identity that extends beyond music. He is also the author S C Hamill, writing across children's literature, environmental storytelling and musical projects. This dual creative life has given storytelling a central place in his work, with music and writing often crossing paths and allowing him to explore ideas from different perspectives.
Music is also part of Hallgreenboy's family history. He is the cousin of Christopher Hamill, better known as Limahl, lead singer of the iconic 1980s band Kajagoogoo. His father, Clifford Hamill, was a singer and multi instrumentalist who performed in working men's clubs across the northwest of England for more than 35 years, playing guitar and banjo and regularly performing a tribute to George Formby. That musical background provides an interesting thread connecting generations of performers, while Hallgreenboy has developed his own sound and creative direction.
Today, Hallgreenboy independently writes, records and releases original music, continuing to build a catalogue that refuses to sit comfortably in one box. From guitar driven rock and melodic pop to reflective ballads and more experimental material, each release adds another chapter to an evolving musical story.
For Hallgreenboy, songwriting is ultimately about connection. Whether a song makes someone reflect, remember, smile, hurt, heal or simply press play again, the goal is to create music that stays with the listener after the song has ended.
